In 1981, Nanao Sakaki and Gary Snyder took a six-week tout to Australia, where they read their poems and visited Aboriginal communities. The tour, named Poems of Land and Life, was set up by musician, performer and writer John Stokes, founder of The Tracking Project
In partnership with photographer and filmmaker Bjarni Haraldsson, Stokes shot a video especially for Nanao Global celebrations! In the video, he tells good stories about Sakaki and Snyder's Australian trip, which includes behind-the-scenes creation of poems like Break the Mirror and Chant of A Rock.
Thank you so much John, for sharing your great stories with all of us! Happy Nanao Global Year!
